Leo Beck, or Hell Ember, is one of 22 Hunters currently featured in Identity V .
Overview[ | ]
Hell Ember is an area-control Hunter, able to apply pressure across the Map by placing deadly Puppets for Survivors to walk near.
His personal Abilities, Puppet Control & Multiple Puppet Control , allow him to chase Survivors more effectively.
His focus is on teleporting to his puppets to have map control. Effective ways of using the puppets are to place them near Cipher Machines, in front of a Rocket Chair with a survivor on it, and by the exit gates when they are open. By pressing and holding the puppet icon, Hell Ember can aim and throw his puppets to teleport a greater distance.
Hell Ember can also summon many temporary clones that can pursue nearby survivors. Only one clone can be active at a time. However, if a puppet is infused with a flame, the puppet will walk and search the area for nearby survivors.
Background[ | ]
The factory manager was married in 1874. Three years later, his daughter was born. He operated a small textile factory and was flexible in handiwork. He also made small toys for his daughter. Though he didn't have a big career, he loved his family.
The factory owner suffered a career issue, and many years of friends and lawyers helped him. After taking the advice of his friend Freddy Riley, he bought a small gun factory that was severely in debt. Before Leo realized the poor conditions of the factory, his wife and Freddy Riley made off with all his possessions and disappeared. Drowning in debt, Leo Beck began to drink alcohol for a while, giving up his daughter to an orphanage to prepare himself for self-immolation in the factory.
Though he took his life in a fire, it did not remove him from the world. He was reborn with resentment and wrote, "I will find you" in the factory.
He had been a survivor, but because he refused to write in his diary, he was "punished" and reappeared as a hunter.
Event[ | ]
In a certain diary's description, he broke the manor owner's rules by no longer writing his diary, and was punished. But in another diary, the bandaged face assumed the role of a regulator to "return to the game"?
Many diaries described the same game with clearly mismatched details - the credibility of all records regarding regulators are open to doubt.

2019 Character Day Letter[ | ]
- An Unsent Letter
Dear Leo,
I know you won't be happy seeing this letter. In fact, I know you'll be pissed. Freddy proposed to me.
I said yes.
I'm not asking for your forgiveness with this letter. I know I'm about to do something really bad.
For the sake of Lisa, however, please consider carefully the investment we debated.
Competitions among weaving factories are fierce, I know.
But please believe me, everyone needs new clothes, but rifles are no "daily necessities".
Not to mention, why do you think people will buy rifles from you?
No one from the previous five generations of the Becks was good at hunting!
I'm sorry. There I go again.
I shouldn't tell you how to do business.
But my dear, I can't help but hope that you will make a wise decision.
Take care of Lisa, and find a more suitable woman for yourself.
Once again, I'm really sorry.
Martha Remington
2020 Character Day Letter[ | ]
- Evidence no. 24 of the Arms Factory Fire
(A stack of paper, the top sheet seemed to be an unsent letter with traces of repeated corrections)
Dear Lisa:
How are you doing at the orphanage? I've asked the priest to give you a bottle of milk every day. Do drink it, please. It's getting cold these days. You have a habit of kicking your blankets off at night. While you may have learned that from me, it's a bad habit and you must get rid of it.
As for your mother, the fact that she chose to leave has nothing to do with you. You aren't an unwanted child. She (the words were erased and couldn't be read).
My child, I have to leave this place to look for another way to make money.
Don't come and find me.
You need to grow up and live a good life.
Going forward, remember not to trust people easily. Live for yourself. You won't get lucky by being nice. It took Father too long to learn this lesson, but I know you're smart and you'll know what to do.
Lastly, remember our little game with fire and scarecrow? That cursed factory would be your toy soon. This is probably the only thing your useless Father can do for you.
...........
(The remaining content was incomprehensible due to the smoke. There were also stacks of invoices beneath the letter. On an exposed corner, it read: Beneficiary of Compensation: Lisa Beck)

Tips[ | ]
- Hold the puppet button to throw it, then immediately teleport to it to jump from a high height and attack, which suffered from no cooldown.
- Throw to the cipher machine to jump scare and attack them.
- Use Fury to break pallets and free hit survivor.
- Because of the fact that Puppets detect nearby survivors, Leo doesn't need to camp chairs that have survivors. He can just teleport when it detects a target.
- Leo is one of the hunter that is bad at ending chases in early game, which can be solved by using Insolence, Confined Space, Blink, and Fury.
Trivia[ | ]
- Emma Woods is his daughter.
- His Character Day, December 21st, is the same day as his daughter’s birthday.
- He is interested in handicrafts.
- He is skilled at leather working.
- He loves his family.
- He hates mice and foxes like Emma does.
- If a puppet is thrown upward towards trees and Hell Ember teleports to it, Hell Ember will occasionally fall from the air.

- His King Arthur and Eternal King skins are a reference to the British's legendary king of the same name and the Arthurian legends.
- He shares some traits of The Trapper from Dead by Daylight, to the point where he can be considered an equivalent.
- Leo was originally supposed to have a sickle for a weapon, then a chainsaw, and finally, it was changed into a stuffed shark.
- His stuffed shark was originally blue, but it was changed to black upon player's request.
- After completing his and Emma's Character Day quests, you will receive only one letter; the 2019 letter, or the 2020 letter if you were there for the 2019 event.
